Kupowałyśmy śledzie u ciebie i bułki,
nie śmiałyśmy się nigdy z twojej jarmułki.
Zła była twoja waga;
fałszywa twoja miarka!
Oszukiwałeś nas, Lejbo niegodziwy, na ziarenkach dla kanarka!
Patrz, jak wyglądasz teraz Lejbo przed nami:
Rumienisz się, cmokasz, mrugasz oczami.
Patrz, Lalka taka mała, a wszystko zrozumiała,
a już ci dzisiaj ręki na dzieńdobry nie podała.
Ach, Lejbo, Lejbo, jakże ci nie wstyd?
Zawsześ my mówiły, żeś ty dobry żyd!
Bardzo nam przykro, lecz nie nasza wina,
Idziemy stąd na skargę prosto do rabina.
Mamy złą i dobrą miarkę i nasze ziarnka,
a prócz tego Lalka niesie także i kanarka.

Look, even a little doll can catch it all

We are very sorry, but it's not our fault,
We'll take our complaint straight to the rabbi.
