Śpij, syneczku,
na drewnianym łoóżeczku,
zaśpiewam ci nutkę o brzozowym listeczku:
jak się z witką brzozową
chwieje, chwieje nad głową,
jak się latem zakurzy,
jak się wzdryga od burzy,
jak - ślicznie malowany -
w ziemię bywa wdeptany,
jak go gwiaździstą porą
anieli w niebo biorą.

 Sleep my son, 
 on the wooden bed, 
 I'll sing you a song about a birchen leaf: 
 how it sways on the branch 
 sways over your head, 
 how it's covered with pollen, 
 how it trembles in the summer storm, 
 so magically beautiful, 
 sometimes trodden into the earth, 
 or during the starlit night 
 carried by angels up to Heaven.
