Da Maanen stod bag Skyer, gik jeg ned 
til Havets mørke drømmeriske Bred.
Sølvskyens Næt henover Æthrens Blaa
var kun én Streng, som Hænder leged paa;
og disse fine hvide Fingre smaa slog Strengen i en underskøn Musik, 
og vidt ud lyste Søen langs sin Bred, da Maanen atter ud fra Skyen gik.

Dér stod jeg ydmyg, slog mit Øje ned,
fornam et Lysvæld af en Herlighed,
fornam mit Selv al Elskovs Udspring nær,
fornam min Sjæl af Nattens Rigdom fuld,
af Sølvmorsdis, af Hav blinks Straaleskær;
tavs stod jeg denne Tavshed var Guld, Guld.
