Da schon die Sonne sich verbarg
Und in die fahlen Berge sank,
Der rauhe Wind im gelben Park
Mit Laub bedeckte Weg und Bank,
Da sah ich dich und sahst du mich;
Du rittest still dein dunkles Ross
Und rittest still und feierlich
Durch Wind und Blaetterfall zum Schloss.
Das war ein traurig Wiedersehn:
Du rittest blass und langsam fort,
Ich blieb am hohen Gitter stehn,
Es dunkelte, und keines sprach ein Wort.
