Der Sturmwind braust, Matrose Mut!
Und steure zu mit letzter Kraft!
Was kümmert dich der Wellen Wut?
Bald trotzest du in sich'rer Hut
des schweren Ungewitters Macht. 

Was rings am Strand mein Aug erspäht,
die Heimat ist's, o süßer Klang!
Der Wind, der kühlend mich umweht,
er bringt vom Ufer schon, o seht!
Freundes Gruß und frohen Sang. 

Begreift ihr wohl, warum mein Blick
erglänzt  von Lust und freud'gem Schein?
Nach langer Trennung führt das Glück
mich heut zu Weib und Kind zurück!
Sie harren bangen Herzens mein. 

Das Boot dem Strand entgegen fliegt,
ich zitt're, ach, nur all' zu oft,
wenn Glück uns sicher eingewiegt;
ein Windstoß, und zertrümmert liegt
was heiss ersehnt wir und gehofft.
