Es war ein Tag im Maien

Language: German

Es war ein Tag im Maien,
da zog mein Alles fort,
ich hört' ihr Lied und glaubte
dem wundersüssen Wort.

Sie ist hinweg gezogen,
mir war das Herz so schwer;
und Frühling kam und Schwalbe:
Mein Lieb kan nimmermehr.

Ich will durch die Lande fahren
und suchen, die einst mir treu.
Und will sie bebend fragen,
ob sie mein Lieb noch sei.

Und sagt nichts und weinet
und senkt das Köpfchen trüb,
dann ist der Schwur zerrissen,
leb' wohl, verlornes Lieb!

Er was een dag

Language: Dutch

Er was een dag zoo treurig,
Daar ging mijn al van't oord,
Haar lied weerkling m'in 't harte
En 't wonderzoetste woord.

Z'is weder heengetogen
Dat deed mijn hart zoo zeer;
De lente kwam met bloemen:
Maar 't liefhe kwam niet weer.

'k Zal dwalen door alle landen
En zoeken het liefste Kind
En 'k zal haar bevend vragen
Of ze me nog bemint.

En buigt ze stom het hoofdje
En went ze d'oogen uit
Dan is heur eed verbroken
Vaarwel, verloren bruid!

From the Van der Stucken score.
