Ich möchte wohl die Blume sein,
die führt ein stilles Leben,
sie blüht und duftet auf grünem Rain,
von stillen Schwestern umgeben.

Ich möchte wohl das Bächlein sein,
das führt ein rastlos Leben,
es rinnt und rauscht in die Welt hinein,
um nach dem Meere zu streben.

Ich möchte wohl der Eichbaum sein,
der führt ein stolzes Leben,
er steht als König im grünen Hain,
von seinen Vasalen umgeben.

Am Liebsten möcht' ich die Lerche sein,
die führt ein fröhliches Leben,
sie fliegt in den blauen Aether hinein
und singt noch im Entschweben.
