Auf hohen Burgeszinnen
Der alte König stand
Und überschaute düster
Das düster umwölkte Land.
 
Es zog das Ungewitter
Mit Sturmesgewalt herauf.
Er stützte seine Rechte
Auf seines Schwertes Knauf.
 
Die Linke, der entsunken
Das gold'ne Scepter schon

Da zog ihm seine Buhle

Das Ungewitter ziehet

Nicht König mit Schwert und Kron':
