Warum klagt die Nachtigall, hier in Lenz und Wonne,
wo jedwedes Herze drängt freudig auf zur Sonne?
Ob die süße Liederbrust dunkel fühlt das Ahnen
jener Schauer, die, ein Hauch, an den Tod gemahnen?
Wie so bald dein Sang verstummt,
dem ich grübelnd lauschte!
Wie auch mir der Liebestraum
allzu früh verrauschte.
