Denn eine kann drei Dinge nicht
Zugleich vollbringen, wie sogar
Der weise Psychologe spricht.
Die eine hängt voll Liebesglut
An schönen Munds Korallenrand;
Die andre schwimmt auf Weinesflut
Hinüber an den Götterstrand;
Die dritt in freudigem Tumult
Braust ihre Dithyramben laut
Und schleudert ihren Katapult
Ans kalte Herz, metallverbaut.
So gehts, bis an den Bettelstab
Sie ihren Wirt, den Leib, gezehrt;
Bis jubilierend dann hinab
Die tolle Drei zur Hölle fährt.
