Wie der Wasserlilie Kelch leuchtend auf den Wellen schwanket,
während in dem Schooß der Wasser sich ihr stiller Stengel ranket:
So, ein lichtes Wunder schwimmt träumerisch mir im Gemüthe
über tiefen, dunklen Fluthen meiner Liebe weiße Blüthe.
Ihre Wurzel sah ich nie; heimlich sprossen ihre Triebe:
wie sie plötzlich sich entfaltet, wußt' ich eins nur -- daß ich liebe!
