Dear friends, we are turning 20 next year! Two years ago, 0.01% of all visitors made a donation. Last year, it was 0.02%. To all who have donated - a very warm thank you! Your generosity inspires me every day to keep going. Unfortunately, the current situation is not sustainable. Even if only 0.5% of visitors could make a donation, we could continue indefinitely - so please donate today and help keep this resource freely-available to all.    ---Emily Ezust, Founder

Auf meines Kindes Tod I

Language: German (Deutsch)

Als ich nun zum ersten Male
Wieder durch den Garten ging,
Busch und Bächlein in dem Thale
Lustig an zu plaudern fing.

  Blumen halbverstohlen blickten
Neckend aus dem Gras heraus,
Bunte Schmetterlinge schickten
Sie sogleich auf Kundschaft aus.

Auch der Kuckuck in den Zweigen
Fand sich bald zum Spielen ein,
Endlich brach der Baum das Schweigen:
"Warum kommst du heut allein?"

Da ich aber schwieg, da rührt' er
Wunderbar sein dunkles Haupt,
Und ein Flüstern konnt' ich spüren
Zwischen Vöglein, Blüth' und Laub.

  Thränen in dem Grase hingen,
Durch die abendstille Rund
Klagend nun die Quellen gingen,
Und ich weint' aus Herzensgrund.

Gentle Reminder
This is a personal project that I began in 1995. I receive no salary for my full-time work on it, and aside from ad revenue and copyright fees, the Archive was supported financially last year by fewer than 0.02% of our visitors. So if you found the information here useful, please consider making a donation. Your gift is greatly appreciated.
