Es irrt in dem Wald umher,
Es schreiet und weinet bitterlich,
Es hungert und frieret sehr.
Durch dunkle Tannen brauset der Wind,
Dumpf krachen Zweig und Ast.
Wie läuft so eilig das zitternde Kind,
Die Angst läßt ihm nicht Rast.
