So reich und mild
Die hellen Sensen blinken
Die Garbe schwillt.
Da wollen wir beginnen
Den Erndtesang;
Ach, aber mitten innen
Schallt Glockenklang.
Die Trauerglocke läutet
Vom Turme her;
Wir wissen, was es deutet:
Sie ist nicht mehr!
Zwei Augen ruh'n im Grabe,
So fromm und blau
Und auf die Gottesgabe
Fällt Tränentau.
