Sie standen mitten im Heidekraut,

ringsum hat der weite Himmel geblaut
und Schottlands Sonne geshienen.
Kein Busch, kein Haus, das sie umfing,
um ihre Liebe zu bergen,
nur Sonne und Himmel in weitem Ring
und auf der Spur die Schergen,
Da rafft er sich auf: " 's ist alles eins,
hinauf, mein Lieb, auf den Schimmel!
Mein Mund an deinem, mein Herz an dein's,
wir reiten in den Himmel!"
