liegt das schöne Mosella,
dort ist Hafis begraben.
An keinem Ort in Persien
flöten die Nachtigallen
so märchensüß wie da.
An keinem Ort in Persien
ersteht der holde Frühling
so blühend aus der Erde.
Seltsam! Die Blumen duften
auf dem Grabe von Hafis
ganz anders als sonst im Land.
Sie riechen festlich und freudig,
die Sinne so fein berauschend!
Das ist kein Duft nach Blumen,
das ist ein süßer Weinduft.

leży piękna Mozella,
w śnie tam Hafiz spoczywa.
I nigdzie w Persji całej
pieśni słowiczych chóry
tak słodko nie brzmiąjak tam.
I nigdzie w Persji całej
wiosennych wdzięków czar
tak bujnie nie rozkwita.
O dziwo! I kwiaty pachną
tak na grobie Hafiza,
iż zdasię ogrodem róż.
Ich woń świąteczna, radosna
tak zmysły odurza dziwnie!
Nie kwiatów jest to zapach,
lecz wina czar upojny.
