Des aiguilles à tricoter
Dans sa vieille perruque grise,
La duègne, en casaquin cerise,
Ne se lasse de marmotter.

Sous la treille elle vient guetter
Pierrot dont sa chair est éprise,
Des aiguilles à tricoter

Soudain elle entend éclater
Les sifflets pointus de la brise :
La lune rit de la méprise,
Et ses rais semblent imiter
Des aiguilles à tricoter.

Stricknadeln, blank und blinkend,

Im roten Röckchen da.

Sie wartet in der Laube,
Sie liebt Pierrot mit Schmerzen,
Stricknadeln, blank und blinkend,

Da plötzlich - horch! - ein Wispern!
Ein Windhauch kichert leise:
Der Mond, der böse Spötter,
Äfft nach mit seinen Strahlen -
