Der Natur die still entgegen
Dir sich Sehnt aus ihrer Haft
Brich die stärken Eisesketten
Die um uns der Winter Schlug
Schwelle Ström in ihren Betten
Und der Nymphe füllden Krug.
Säusle milder, rausche starker
Gold'ner! brich das eh'rne Schloss
Danaë ist hier im Kerker
Steig herab in ihren Schloss.

Fall O rain and cease not falling
All the earth is waiting thee

Rain of April set me free
Flood the rivers, brim them over
Fill the jars the maidens bring
Cleave the chains of ice that cover
All the woodlands, Rain of Spring.
God of Springtime, new arisen,
Wake her locked within her tower
Danae is here in prison
Waiting for the golden shower.
