Die Erde ruht, am Himmel fliegen
Goldlichte Wolken ohne Zahl,
Des Taues Demanttropfen liegen
Ringsum im weiten stillen Tal.
Das Bächlein plätschert um den Hügel;
Des Donners Schall verweht der West;
Der Wind schlägt machtlos mit dem Flügel,
Umstrickt vom starken Baumgeäst.
Der hohe Wald steht stumm und lauschend,
Es schweiget des grüne Waldesreich,
Im Dunkel bebt, kaum hörbar rauschend,
Ein schlummerloses Blatt und Zweig.
Im Abendrot erglüht allmählich
Der liebe Stern so schön, so klar,
Und mir wird leicht und still und selig,
Wie einst, da noch ein Kind ich war.
