Schäumend floß der Bach und spritzte
Mich mit seiner Flut.
Seid nicht bange, liebe Mutter,
Daß er's wieder thut.
Leise rann der Bach im Fliehn,
Der Verräther, wie im Traume,
Unter Blumen, unterm Schaume,
Daß er fast lebendig schien;
Überschreiten wollt' ich ihn,
Da bespritzte mich die Flut.
Seid nicht bange, liebe Mutter,
Daß er's wieder thut.
Wo er zwischen Kieseln sprang,
Macht' er tausend Fäll' und Kreise,
Recht, als wollt' er leise, leise
Schmeicheln mir mit seinem Klang.
Und ich glaubt' ihm was er sang;
Da bespritzte mich die Flut.
Seid nicht bange, liebe Mutter,
Daß er's wieder thut.
Meine Schürze fein und weiß
Hat er ganz und gar benetzet,
Und sich lachend drob ergetzet
Mit den Blumen dort im Kreis.
