Amanda

Language: German

Um die blütenvollen Äste
Summen Bienchen, säuseln Weste;
In der dichten Rosenlaube
Girrt die sanfte Turteltaube,
Und der Blüten Balsam duft
Füllt die ganze Frühlingsluft.

Seht, vom Zephyr angesäuselt,
Seht, wie sich die Welle kräuselt!
Zärtlich rauscht die Pappelweide,
Und es tönt Gesang der Freude
Von der kleinen Sänger Chor,
Aus beblümtem Hain hervor.

Möcht' ich unter diesen Linden,
Möcht' ich doch Amanda finden!
Tauscht' ich diesen Hain und Wiese
Nicht mit einem Paradiese!
Wäre doch Amanda hier,
Glück und Freude ist sie mir.

Gentle Reminder
This is a personal project that I began in 1995. I receive no salary for my full-time work on it, and aside from ad revenue and copyright fees, the Archive was supported financially last year by fewer than 0.02% of our visitors. So if you found the information here useful, please consider making a donation. Your gift is greatly appreciated.

Amanda

Language: English

Around the full-blossomed boughs
Bees buzz, the westwind rustles;
In the thick rose-arbor
Coo the sweet turtledoves,
And the Balsam blossom's aroma
Fills all the Spring air.

See, by Zephirus set in motion,
See, how the waves ripple,
Tenderly the poplars rustle,
And a song of joy sounds
From the little chorus
From out of the blooming woods.

Might I under this linden
Might I find Amanda!
Then would I trade this wood and meadow
For no other paradise!
If only Amanda were here
Joy and happiness would be mine.
